English Brothers Company was founded in 1902 by Richard C. & Edward H.  English, after they attended the University of Illinois, and E. H. English had graduated in Civil Engineering in 1902. The company has been in continuous operation since that time. The firm has continued to be run as a privately held corporation. The founders of the company were succeeded by Mr. R.C. English's sons, Edward & Richard C., Jr. Edward was a 1931 graduate of the University of Illinois in Architectural Engineering and Richard graduated from Catholic University of America. They were later joined by Edward J. Hynds, Sr., their brother-in-law, who was a graduate of the University of Illinois in 1928 in Accounting. Today the company is headed by Edward J. Hynds, Jr., who is a 1954 graduate of the University of Illinois in Industrial Administration.

English Brothers Company has constructed many very significant buildings throughout the Midwest. Included among those are many buildings at the University of Illinois campus in Champaign-Urbana. To name a few of the buildings at the University of Illinois, we include Follinger Auditorium, David Kinley Hall, Memorial Stadium, the Stock Pavilion and its major renovation, the main Library and two stack additions, Huff Gymnasium, the original Illini Union Building, the Kinkead Pavilion of Krannert Art Museum, and Temple Hoyne Buell Hall. Among some projects of historic note are the building and restoration of Lincoln's Tomb in Springfield, Illinois and the replication of New Salem Village in Petersburg, Illinois. Both of these projects were undertaken for the State of Illinois. The company also constructed the original Chanute Field at Rantoul, Illinois, and Camp Lawrence and Camp Perry at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, during World War I. English Brothers Company received commendations from the War Department for the speed and efficiency for which the facilities were constructed. English Brothers Company has enjoyed an exemplary reputation with architects and owners throughout its history. Quality of its projects has never been questioned. Repeat projects by the company have been welcomed by both owners and architects.

The management of our company is confident in our ability to continue the excellence of our corporation through the fourth generation of family ownership with the excellent young and viable executives, who are employed by the company. Considering the expertise of the professionals involved in the day-to-day operation of the company, we are positioned to go forward and to meet any challenges that arise in the construction industry in the future.
